.::Taiwan 2012 Day 4 - Taichung::.

Day 4 - 29th Nov 2012 (Thursday) @ Taichung

supposed to wake up at 8am to pack our luggage and eat breakfast before catching our HSR train at 11am from Kaohsiung to Taichung. but lazy us overslept and we only woke up at 9.30am haha. mad rush as we tried to get everything in place and check out. took a cab to the HSR station and managed to reached at 10.45am. was very happy to see mos burger outlet at the HSR station as we didn't had time for breakfast earlier on. i thought we had to settle for cup noodles hur hur.

breakfast on hsr!

1 hour later, we reached taichung!

cabbed to our hotel, le parker, which is very near feng jia night market! wanted to stay at a minsu but the cute rooms were sold out already :(

cannot check in yet as we reached too early at 12.30pm. we headed out for shopping before coming back in the evening.

love the blue sky

waiting at the bus stop, we are going to Yi Zhong shopping district!

Photobucket

bus ride took about 40 mins so we took a quick nap =p

taking a bus to yi zhong shopping street. we damn pro at taking bus in taiwan please hahaha!

alighted at Zhong You departmental store and bought my m.a.c eyebrow pencil here!

nothing much interests us at the departmental store so we just bought my eyebrow pencils and went to Yi Zhong street/market to explore instead. The stalls there were more interesting and lots of street food for us to try!

After Yi Zhong, we took another bus to Jing Ming street for shopping. Have not been to both Yi Zhong & Jing Ming before but read online that it’s two of the to-go places in Taichung so I planned it in the itinerary. There was honestly nothing much at Jing Ming except 1 shopping street =x but it was still worth it because we found a standalone Kanpai restaurant there!!!

I have been dying to try this BBQ restaurant as there were rave reviews from friends and forums. went to the restaurant at 4.50pm but they only open at 5pm so we had to stand outside and wait for a short while. Did I mentioned it was rainy and cold? But nvm, can cam whore to kill time!

i have been dying to try this!!!

the service there was superb! the staff asked whether it was our 1st time visiting the restaurant and recommended us some dishes to try. He also taught us how to cook the meat for optimal taste.

Kimchi tofu with poached egg. i was at the toilet and bf mixed it all up before i can take pic.

As mentioned, the service was impeccable. The staff were really attentive and observant. Throughout our meal, our designated waiter will come over regularly to chat with us and shared info on what snacks to try at Feng Jia NM after he know we are heading there later that night.

He was chatting to this HK tourist couple next to us and they were also going to Feng Jia next. That’s not all, the Kanpai waiter asked the 4 of us how long have we been together with our partner and it turned out that the HK couple have been together for 7 years as well! The waiter can’t believe the coincidence lol.

this couple beside us are tourists from hong kong. the waiter chatted with 4 of us and it turned out that we are both going to feng jia night market next and both of us are in a 7 years relationship HAHA what are the chances?!!

It was a fun chat and made our meal very enjoyable. Noticed I said meal and not dinner because we had so many meals in a day that we cannot classify it as breakfast lunch dinner clearly anymore LOL. There was so much food we wanted to try and too little time + stomach space to try everything.

At Kanpai, if any 2 diners (need not be couple or of opposite sex) kiss for 10 secs and let the staff take a photo, they get a free plate of meat! We saw some polaroids of guys kissing each other damn funny. Got persuaded by the waiter to play the game, we are shy la but still managed to complete the 10 secs hehe and we got our free meat! The quality of meat is not compromised even though it’s free :)

they have a tradition whereby if anyone kissed for 10 seconds, u get a free plate of beef!

The bill came up to about SGD$40 and there’s 10% off the total bill if you finish your meal before 7pm. Overall, very good experience and Kanpai have branches in Taipei too, so do visit!

Cabbed back to hotel to check in, room was small but decent. Anyway, we barely spent 9 hours in there lol so the room size didn’t really matter so much.

It’s Feng Jia NM next! This is one of my favourite nm, it’s the biggest in Taiwan! Our hotel is just a 3-5 minutes walk away from the nm, very convenient!

大肠包小肠, the taiwan sausage wrapped inside the glutinous rice is very nice!

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

my absolute favourite street snack in taiwan: 地瓜球, it seems that this stall is very famous because there is a perpetual long queue. we bought the "big" serving and walloped all! =D

i am obsessed with sweet potato balls, they are so CHEWYmajor love

my happiness in a bag =D

happiness in a bag :)

the signature landmark of the nm

johnson's favourite food - pork knuckle

there were lots of things to eat and buy but we didn't take much pics, too busy =p bought mostly accessories and phone covers. we acquired like 5 phone covers from this nm alone haha!

we kinda overslept the next day again LOL so it's another mad rush to the HSR station to catch our train to Taipei at 11am. took a taxi because it's so much more convenient... bye bye taichung~

on cab heading to taichung hsr, going to taipei next!Photobucketbye bye taichung

bf say he die die got to try the railway bento, this is our last time taking HSR for the trip so he bought it as his breakfast and ate on the train. end up not nice lehhh~ fortunately, i took the safer route and bought mac breakfast instead haha. i am not a fan of rice for breakfast hur hur.

railway bento

Taipei is our last stop for the trip and we are glad we do not have to lug our luggages around to take trains anymore!!! More about Taipei in the next entry :)
