.::Taiwan 2012 Day 5 & 6 - Taipei::.

Day 5 - 30th Nov 2012 (Friday) @ Taipei (XMD, Yong Kang St, Melange Cafe, Wufenpu, Raohe NM)

there was a drastic change in weather when we reached taipei. it was sunny throughout the 1st half of our trip but it rained everyday once we reached taipei :( quite a bummer and we had to change some of our plans as a result. what we did was to buy a poncho from their convenience stores and wear it so that we won't get wet. we did bring an umbrella along but the wind is so strong sometimes that i think the umbrella will just break haha.

day 5: forgot to take a photo with the hsr taipei sign so gotta make do with this ugly one sighz

we took a cab from taipei main station to our hotel, cityinn plus ximending. the ride was fairly short, about 10 mins with slight traffic jam and it costs about NTD90.

can't check in yet as it was only 12 noon (check-in at 3pm) so we deposited our luggage and went for lunch! took a bus to yong kang street from outside the hotel. bus 20 if i am not wrong, 15 mins bus ride.

from yong kang street, we started our food trail!

1st stop was yong kang beef noodles

from here we start our yongkang street food trail!Photobucket

we told ourselves not to eat too much because we have 3 food stops along this food trail. so we ordered 1 clear broth noodles to share but the red braised beef soup look so good too which we ended up ordering as well =x plan to eat sparingly FAIL

steamed porkribs with sweet potato (this is a must-order there)

we actually left the shop without taking a photo of the signboard. realized that halfway out and walked back again just for these shots haha it was drizzling as you can see

raining also wanna take photoPhotobucketPhotobucket

2nd food stop is the flagship store of din tai fung, we just had to try the xiao long baos here to see if it is really better than singapore's outlets haha conclusion is more or less the same. maybe slightly tastier but it could be due to the cold weather and any warm food is comfort food. we also counted the xlbs to see if there were really 18 folds for each one haha damn bo liao.

2nd stop: din tai feng!Photobucketjust have to try the xlb to see if it is really better at taiwan's flagship store lolwe counted if there were really 18 folds in each xlb lolPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

3rd stop: yong kang 15 mango shaved ice. the original outlet actually shifted and this is a new brand. it is really quite shiok!!!

after the dessert, we were damn full haha. went back to the hotel to check in at 3pm. oftd shot using the room's mirror! wore my booties because it is really much colder in taipei and needed them to keep warm.

Photobucketday 5 oftd! took my booties out to wear haha

we went for high tea next even though we just had a heavy lunch. like i said, too much food places to try, too little time lol. highly anticipating our high tea because the cafe look nice from photos on the web and it was said the strawberry waffles are to-die-for.

melange cafe @ zhongshan mrt - must order the strawberry waffles!!! it looks and taste like a dream

eat again after the yong kang food trail HAHA this is high teaPhotobucketPhotobucket

nua and people-watched while we enjoy the tea. wufenpu wholesale market next! short walk from houshanpi mrt station. didn't buy much here cause it was all winter wear. but the variety is amazing, will be good to come during summer. however, prices are not cheap as the owners claimed that they import from korea.

Photobucketwufenpu

after combing the wufenpu streets, we went to 胡须张鲁肉饭 to try the pork knuckle. so-so nia leh.

trying lu rou fanPhotobucket

asked for directions how to walk to 饶河夜市 next. it's not a short walk, about 15-20 mins from wufenpu area. but it was cooling and we were trying to digest our food so we didn't mind the walk.

raohe nm is more for food though than shopping. 2 whole rows of food galore! they are famous for pepper biscuit, bbq oysters, egg omelette and 排骨酥.

night market full of nice food!

egg omelette with corn and fish roe. damn good! we had to queue for 15 minutes

lots of roe with gooey egg yum.

bbq fresh oysters

grilled oysters!!! super fresh *slurps*

lots of other food we tried but lazy to take photos. just try whatever stall with a queue, can't go wrong much haha.

we went back early because we are going for midnight karaoke to countdown to my birthday!!! hehehe went to partyworld which was just behind our hotel but it was such a rip-off! 2 hours costs SGD$88 and their system only know how to recognize their own local phonics which we know zilch about hahaha so we can only choose songs from their top recommended songs list. got my happy birthday song from bf so i am happy!

Day 6 - 1st Dec 2012 (Saturday) @ Taipei (City Hall Area, Smith&Hsu, Taipei 101, 师大夜市, Luxy) My birthday!!! =D

i made a high tea reservation 3 weeks ago at smith&hsu. the scones were said to be the best so here we are to try! this cafe runs on a reservation-basis only so be sure to book early!

birthday high tea at smith & hsu :)

the tea selection is mind-boggling, you can smell them and decide what you like best. those on the tray are the more popular ones, they have more choices than shown!

lots of tea for us to choose from, this tray consists of the highly recommended onesPhotobucket

bf chose the caramel tea because it was labelled No. 8 and his jersey number is 8. haha

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

they sell their tea too and i bought a tin of Turkish apple tea back. i love floral and fruity tea!

went to eat again after the high tea as colleague recommended this 猪脚 place to us. can barely manage this meal after our high tea lol. we only order small portion to share and try

recommended by colleaguecan barely manage this after our smith & hsu high tea lol...

took the free shuttle bus to taipei 101 from taipei city hall mrt station exit 2. it started raining very heavily so we gave up the idea of going up to the observatory tower. even the ticketing coutner staff advised us against it as it will be very foggy and can't see shit. SIGHZ i did not go up during my trip 2 years ago also. dunno when i can get the chance to go up =p we can't even get a decent shot of taipei 101 from outside the building as it was raining too heavily. so, only can take photos inside lor.

oftd shot at taipei 101~PhotobucketPhotobucketdidn't manage to go up to the 101 observatory as it was raining and thus foggy. even the counter staff advised against it lol...Photobucket

took a cab to 师大夜市 after Taipei 101. this is my fav night market cause the clothes and accessories here are really pretty! the stuff are more unique compared to xmd.

we had my birthday dinner at shida nm as well at my favourite steakhouse in taiwan, 牛魔王. the steak sets are good and cheap! comes with mashed potato, soup, steak and free flow red tea. i discovered this place my last trip 2 years ago and had been thinking about it frequently ever since.

the udon noodles with the steak taste heavenly. mine was medium and it was cooked just nice. the set only costs SGD$14, very worth it for the steak quality!

Photobucketbirthday dinner :)PhotobucketPhotobucketthe steak is still so damn good after 2 years =p standard didn't drop hehe

anyway, this is the beginning of johnson's misery. =p he ordered his steak at medium-rare and it was so raw ewww. he still finished it but he got diarrhea for the next 3 days, poor boy.

my bday prezzie # 2 from him, bought from shida. it is so pretty!!! i have been wearing it very often after we came back to sg hehe

went back to the hotel to change and head to luxy nightclub for the finale to my bday celebration. the hotel staff were so sweet! they noted that it was my birthday that day and prepared a handwritten card and cake for me when i came back at night awww~~~ very observant and thoughtful!!!

luxy is very conveniently located at exit 2 of zhong xiao dun hua mrt station. just come up and you can see it. cover charge was NTD600 per pax regardless of sex, comes with 2 free drinks.

we took the lift up and it was like a scene from the matrix movie haha. i was cringing inside as i walked through the laser paths as i am scared that i will get cut HAHA watch too much movies sorry.

guess where?

quite crowded on a saturday, mostly foreigners though.
